Saint
Columba or Colmcille lived in Ireland during the 6th century.
During his life he was responsible for brings christianity
to much Scotland. Many manasteries were built to honor the
Saint, and many of these monasteries had great stone celtic
crosses on their grounds.. This section of the site looks
at the mysterious dolmens and crosses of Co. Donegal.

The
Kilclooney Dolmen:
| Located
in Ardara, Co. donegal. This massive portal-tome or dolmen
has rested on the hillside for thousands of years. This
is a heritage site offers a glipse of early Irish man. |

Cloghanmore:
|
This
site is not a dolmen or portal tomb in the classic, but
it is a an ancient site that was one usedfor housing the
dead. Cloghanmore is a court-cairn, and is another perfect
example of early Irish architecture.

Beltany
Tops:
|
Another
example of pre Celtic Iron Age construction. these great
stones were used as part of a pagan ritual. Large fires
were lite on the site to help regenerate the site. It
is also rumoured that this site may have been used to
offer up sacrifices to the gods.

The
Cross of Carndonagh:
|
Believed
by many to be one of the earliest crosses, it is said to
be from around the 6th to 7th century. Its early markings
and engravings show the basic technique used to construct
these wonderful pieces. The cross is pictured below.
